It is a well-established fact that Samsung uses the best display available in its flagship devices. With all the major smartphone launches done for the year, the focus now shifts to Samsung’s Galaxy S10 series of devices that are expected to launch in the first quarter of 2019. If a report is to be believed, Samsung will incorporate a new type of OLED display in this flagship and will also launch three variants of the smartphone with one being a flat screen type, that is, it will not have a curved display that melts into the sides. According to South Korean news outlet ETNews, Samsung will launch the Galaxy S10 in three different display sizes. It is expected that there will be a standard model with a 5.8-inch flat type display, which means that this phone will not have a curved display design that is generally associated with Samsung flagships. The other two models are expected to have 5.8-inch edge type display and 6.2 inch edge type display. It is also reported that Samsung has recently started producing panels for the Galaxy S10 smartphone. The report also claims that the display of the Galaxy S10 will have a next generation OLED called ‘M9’ and it has roped-in new partners to supply hosts for the new panel. A host or a sub-pixel is a material that emits light that belongs to a light emitting layer. As per the report, Dow Chemical will supply the Red host, Nippon Steel and Samsung SDI will supply Green, and SFC will provide company with the Blue host. These will replace the M8 chemicals in the OLEDs that were used in the Galaxy S9 series smartphones and Galaxy Note 9. Interestingly, the report says that the chemicals used for the OLED that Samsung supplies to Apple go under the LT2 designation. This could mean that there are differences between Samsung-made AMOLEDs used in Galaxy smartphones and the iPhones.
