Sources: John Giannandrea's team built a next-gen search engine, “Pegasus”, for Apple's own apps, used in Spotlight and Siri, and coming soon to the App Store  —  Apple has the wherewithal to launch its own search engine, a replacement for Google.  And Microsoft even approached the company about helping make that happen.
