Advances in 3D image processing and image sensors, which are progressing at a Moore's Law-like pace, will make lidar redundant for self-driving cars in 3 years  —  Last week when Tesla launched its dedicated autonomy ASIC, a lot of the focus was on this new hardware which allowed redundancy and incredibly fast neural processing.
