Motorola Odin with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8150 and 5G Moto Mod support in works: Report
Back in August, Lenovo Vice President Chang Cheng claimed on Chinese micro-blogging website Weibo that the world’s first 5G phone will be from Lenovo and it will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset, now known as the Snapdragon 8150. Almost three months after the announcement, we could see some development happening on that front. According to XDADevelopers, the company is working on a smartphone that is powered by the Qualcomm’s this year’s flagship SoC and is expected to have a 5G Moto Mod. Code-named “Odin”, the smartphone could be named Motorola Moto Z4. As per the report, this Motorola flagship is having an initial configuration of 4GB RAM and 32GB storage, and it is expected that the phone could also have higher RAM and storage models. The device, which is in its early stages of development, is said to be running on Android 9 Pie. It is also said that this phone is being developed keeping in mind the Moto Mod support. There is no clarity on whether this device will support the existing Moto Mods, but it is being said “Odin” will have a 5G Moto Mod. XDADevelopers claim that Lenovo is able to develop the 5G Moto Mod due to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X50 modem, “which Verizon has used to complete its first 5G data transmission using the Moto Z3 with the unreleased 5G Moto Mod.” It is also said that “Odin” is being developed for North America and there are mentions of a Verizon model, which could mean this device will be a Verizon exclusive. Verizon’s commercial 5G network is set to go live in 2019, the report said. Moreover, Lenovo is also claimed to be is working on a software to handle an in-display fingerprint scanner, it is not confirmed whether “Odin” will have an in-display fingerprint scanner. https://ift.tt/2DwTOuQ
